In the floods of holiday and shutdown emails, there’s a distinct flavour (perhaps it’s just my networks?) of people shunning the hype and simply taking their time off to spend with family and friends – and I for one, am up for it. I’ve had a lot of help building the Satellite in 2015 – big, small, direct and oblique – it’s all appreciated and has not gone unnoticed. Readers, you’re a big part of this - I love to hear from you all – I am a real human on the end of the computer here! The Satellite journal is still a fledgling fantasy that feels a bit like a toddler at present – sometimes unruly, needing hard work and persistence, interspersed with some cracker moments that make my heart swell and make it all worthwhile.

Next year, I’ll launch my brand spanking new website for my photography business which will give you an insight into how I’m funding this wild ride with the support of some great organisations and artists.  I’ll also be giving the Design Satellite a little fancying up, so don’t worry that your inbox has been a little quiet from the Satellite Studio – sometimes you’ve just got to consolidate to get the foundations right for the next step. I made the clear decision not to go down the ‘advertising on the blog’ highway, but stayed on my winding dirt road that can stray in any direction at a moment’s notice – so I hope you’ll continue on this road trip with me.

Whilst I am moving toward becoming a more spiritually evolved person with excellent credit card restraint,  I am not there yet  – so I have put together my Design Satellite Wishlist from some of my feature movers and shakers who have generously welcomed me and my unwieldy tripod into their studios this year. If you would like to buy any of these things or similar, why not contact the designer/maker/artist directly and find out where they’re supplying/exhibiting? I’ll make a Design Satellite guarantee that everyone on these pages is a solid gold person who’ll be a friendly voice on the other end of the line. All the links are in their captions as are their original behind-the-scenes stories, which you may have missed this year. If presence is your kind of present, how about some tickets to MONA FOMA with a loved one – pretend it’s a gift for them! Win/Win!

It’s a crucial time of year financially for makers, so buy locally, act globally – I mean, buy globally and act locally (I think I’ve lost perspective on what’s ‘local’ and who’s in my ‘hood’ since starting Design Satellite) – but, whatever you do, just use your hard earned cash to support good people – because we can’t let the baddies win, alright?
